Maho Beach remains a dream destination for aviation enthusiasts from all over the world. The small beach at the western end of Princess Juliana International Airport is known as the perfect location for taking pictures of airliners approaching the single runway that is just 2180m long. The place has also become a must-see spot for cruise tourists spending their day on St.Maarten.
Traffic varies from small, single engine commuter planes operating to nearby islands to Boeing 747s arriving from European capitals around noon. Eager to watch widebody aircraft overflying the beach at often less than 100 feet people are invited to relax in the Sunset Bar & Grill where the next inbound flights are announced by hand-written arrival times on a surfboard. As most flights arrive and depart between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. a goodsupply of sun lotion is highly recommended.
